As owners of Golden Age Cinema & Bar, we decided to give it a new website for its fifth birthday to do justice to the amazing cinema programming, venue design and bar offering.
Working with the brand’s combination of modernist and expressive typefaces, the website has an editorial feel, celebrating both words and images to make for a pleasurable reading experience that feels more like a magazine than a traditional cinema website. The paired back design makes subtle references to cinema, from the ticket stub like image carousel to the focusing effect of a projector when hovering over images.
Strategically, the site’s architecture is aligned with Golden Age’s business goals, and gives the appropriate amount of real estate to each revenue stream, including the bar, venue hire, membership and gifts. The design puts user experience front and centre, making it easy to find, navigate and discover films allowing them to get the most out of their cinema and bar experience. The results speak for themselves: since launch, new users are up by 15%, page views are up by 54%, pages per session are up by 87% and our session duration has increased by 135%, with the bounce also decreasing by 30%.
