When completed, Burwood Brickworks – a landmark urban village in Melbourne’s east – will be home to the world’s most sustainable shopping centre, the first to meet the rigorous standards of the Living Building Challenge. In order to meet the requirements of the Challenge, Right Angle worked with Frasers Property Australia to understand what this would mean for end users, so green initiatives became relatable moments that made residents proud to spend time at the new town centre.

Sustainability plays a larger role in our day-to-day lives than it ever has before, moving beyond traditional environmental implications to present opportunities to create retail that is memorable – we helped Frasers Property communicate that being green means going beyond high tech environmental solutions to sew sustainability into the character of the centre, creating human experiences that build a new heart and soul for Burwood.

For the people of Burwood, the need for a social, healthy, community-driven town centre is more important than black water treatment plants or hemp socks.
