Full Time
Melbourne & Sydney

At Right Angle Studio, we deliver complex ideas and deep thinking via captivating narratives and an accessible way of communicating. We get a kick out of turning architectural jargon and sluggish policy phrasing into commonspeak, opening it up to the audiences it needs to reach. As Copywriter you will play a key role within our team of storytellers, extracting insight from the data and analysis available and using this to help shape the key messaging and narrative structure for the project.

About Right Angle Studio

Right Angle Studio is an urban strategy agency. Our team is made up of strategists, creatives, writers and designers. Our clients and collaborators are exciting and diverse businesses in Australia (and beyond), including corporate, government and cultural, big and small.

Scope & Purpose

As Copywriter you will play a key role within our team of storytellers, extracting insight from the data and analysis available and using this to help shape the key messaging and narrative structure for the project. You will maintain attention to detail at all times — particularly during the editing and proofreading process — to ensure that there are no errors in the final product that undermine the amount of effort and thought that went into the project. You will use your experience and communication skills to build upon our current research and editorial processes so that we continue to meet our standards and exceed client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

— Producing compelling copy that maximises the impact of our research and strategy work
— Shape the narrative structure, ensuring clarity of message and consistency of tone per company brand guidelines
— Collaborating as a key member of the Editorial Department to develop new storytelling devices and deliver content across digital channels and published reports
— Working with the strategy, creative and business development team to agree on the audience, purpose and format for each research output
— Ensure guidelines for reporting research findings are adhered to and that all project documentation is accurately filed and labelled
— Minimising the need for editorial reviews by ensuring all copy has been checked and meets the guidelines set out in our house style guide, including spelling, sentence structure, grammar and punctuation, as needed

Required Experience

— 3–5 years in an agency or publishing environment in a copywriting or editing role
— Proven experience writing for a range of audiences (e.g. retail, research, government) and formats (e.g. print, digital)
— An acute interest in the cultural, social and economic functions of urban neighbourhoods – a ‘finger on the pulse’, if you like.
— Proven capacity to understand and extract insights from research data, both qualitative and quantitative
— Familiarity with the planning, layout, design and production of publications
— Strong knowledge of local and international development, preferably with familiarity of the role of media and communications in development
— Bachelor qualification or higher in Communications, Creative Writing or Marketing

“Being prepared isn’t a matter of how much you practice. It’s about knowing that even if you fail, you won’t give up.”

John Maeda, Redesigning Leadership
